microRNA

A large number of studies have identified miRNAs that are important for brain development and neuronal differentiation.
miRNAs have been proven to influence brain maturation and plasticity, mechanisms that are known to be perturbed in psychiatric diseases.

There is clinical potential for miRNA as therapeutics in neuroscience

miRNAs are important regulators of stem cell pluripotence and cellular differentiation.

They are emerging as novel strategies for well-controlled efficient differentiation of hESCs into functional lineages essential to the use of hESC biology for cell-based therapies.

Tumor differentiation state is highly predictive of neuroblastoma (NB) patient survival, and the involvement of miRNAs with NB differentiation and tumorigenic state is being explored for the development of novel therapeutic strategies.

Researchers have shown that overexpression of miRNAs, predicted to target inflammatory molecules, diminished expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines and reduced in neuroinflammation demonstrating that miRNAs can be used as a therapeutic tool to prevent the BBB dysfunction in neuroinflammation.
