miRNAs have been identified as key regulators of complex biological processes linked to several cardiovascular pathologies, including: hypertension, arrhythmias, left ventricular hypertrophy, ischaemic heart disease and heart failure.

Microarray and digital expression profiling can provide novel insights about the molecular mechanisms of deregulated miRNA expression during the heart disease pathogenesis.

Further understanding of the function of miRNAs in gene regulatory networks associated with cardiovascular disease will enable identification of the mechanisms of disease and inform the development of innovative therapeutic strategies.
